Back to School

Dear 4 Joy,

Hope you enjoyed today's lesson on Natural Disasters and have a better idea of the disaster you researched on. Tom you will be presenting your work to your friends and you will know even more about the different types of disasters.

Tom I will still be on course and hence will not be seeing you. Please cooperate with Miss Chong and enjoy your lesson. Do not give her a hard time and make too much noise.

When I come back on Wednesday, the rest of you will be presenting on your barn and also I will be grading your barn, so I hope everything is ready.

I miss all of you :) Hopefully you miss me too

National Day Celebration

Dear children,

This is coming in very late, I am sorry. Have been really busy.

I believe all of you enjoyed the celebration immensely. It was indeed a day of fun, joy and laughter! Amidst a sea of red and waving flags, I saw national pride and love for Singapore written on your faces when you sang the National Day songs with such great enthusiasm

A big thank you to those who volunteered to help Mr Aameer with leading the dance. Shahiran also blew the audience away with the stunning Jazz Band performance. I was indeed very happy to see most of you shouting out Shahiran's name before the performance to cheer him on.

Thank you for making my National Day this year especially meaningful and enjoyable.
Here are some photos and videos which were taken on that day.

Awesome photo of Nabil with the blurred background
4 musketeers

 What you pointing at Eliza?

 Singing their hearts out...

 In a heartbeat...

Love At First Light... Love this video, but it's upside down sadly. I have not figured how to rotate videos :(

Vandalism

Dear pupils of 4 Joy,
I know many of you are upset that the decorations outside our classroom got vandalised the past 2 days.

However, I would like to stress again that none of us saw the culprit and hence I do not want you to be accusing pupils from the other classes or asking them if they did it. Leave it as it is.
Mr Prem will look into the issue and let's just hope it does not happen again.

Enjoy your long break but do remember to do your Maths heuristics ws and elearning activities. PLease also revise your work as exams are starting next week.

Luv
Ms uma

Creating the Barn

Dear 4joy angels,

As mentioned, this week (tom) we will be starting to create the barn...

So I hope you have already purchased the necessary items that you need. For eg, styrofoam board, animals and boxes (tissue boxes might be useful) to create the cellar and Zuckerman's house. Please also ensure that you have poster colour and brushes as you will be needing to paint parts of it (remember to bring newspaper if you are painting). Please plan well..

Some pictures of the sample barns that I have shown you from past years to help you conceptualise the layout of your barn.

See you tomorrow!

Goodbye 4 Joy. I love all of you.

Learning Journey to Esplanade

Dear 4 Joy pupils,

I believe many of you enjoyed the Learning Journey to the Esplanade on Thursday tremendously judging from your facial expressions and the wide smiles on your faces:) I certainly did!

The performance entitled "Tales from the Panchatantra" was without a doubt entertaining and very engaging. I hope all of you picked out the different facial expressions that were portrayed by the different characters to show the different feelings which would be useful for your reader's theatre presentation next week.

I believe many of you were drawn to the story of the bond and friendship shared between the mole, the tortoise and the crow; and the elephant and the mouse. Though different in shape, size and species, they managed to find a common ground and established a strong friendship amongst them.

Don't you feel there are some striking similarities between Charlotte's Web (friendship between Charlotte and Wilbur) and the play you watched? They both bring across the message of the value of friendship which knows no boundaries:) I hope you will keep this in mind and build good friendships with your fellow classmates without judging them based on looks, sizes and race.

This is the friendship and rapport you and I have forged!

Here is a wallwisher link for you to share your experience on the Learning Journey! Double click anywhere to add a sticky and type your message inside the box. Do write your name when you post a message so we know who you are and do not delete your classmates' messages as this is a basic form of showing respect for others. You can drag the sticky to move it around. Have fun and I look forward to reading them!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and I will see you tomorrow.

Thanks Erin for the email

SKM video

During the Singapore Kindness Movement week, Eliza was involved in producing a silent movie for our school. Enjoy watching the video!

Before commenting on your friend's reader's theatre, please read this

Dear pupils of 4 Joy,

Please read this before you comment on your friends videos.

Points to note:
1) Use the right language, be polite and respectful
2) Comment individually- Mention who are you commenting about. Is it Mr. Arable, Mrs. Arable or Fern
3) Use the rubrics that was given to you to guide you.

Comment about the:
- clarity of speech (were the words clearly read, or were they muffled and not clear)
- loudness (was it loud enough)
- speed ( was it too fast, too slow or just right)
- pronounciation (were the words pronounced correctly)
- tone (was there a change in tone of voice according to feelings)
- facial expressions (did facial expressions show the correct feeling)
- movements (was there movement, did it look natural or was the person like a robot)
- posture (how was the person standing, was he standing straight or looked too casual)
- confidence (did the person look confident while presenting or shy)
- eye contact (did the person look at his fellow presenters occasionally while presenting or did he look at the audience)

It would be good if you could clearly point out to your friend where he could improve just as we do in class.

For example:
1) Fern should increase the loudness of her voice when she says "Do away with it" as it shows that she is shocked and unhappy.
2) I wish Mr Arable would practice his lines at home as he is stumbling alot on his words. He is missing out and adding his own words.
3) I like the way Fern ended her last line clapping and smiling which showed her happiness in being able to raise the pig

Please give your friends effective feedback... Don't just say the tone is good, tell me especially which part you like the tone or if you mention that you wish that Mr Arable would show more expressions, which part are you talking about.
